As you can see, the list is quite extensive and can be a bit overwhelming. In order to help yourself with the choice, you can ask yourself one of the most important questions – How are you going to use the wallet? Will you be using it only when you are at home with a computer, or will you need easy on the move access from a mobile wallet? Answering these questions for yourself can really benefit your decision.

02. Common Features of Bitcoin Wallets

Although there is a great diversity among all the different Bitcoin wallets, there are common features that are shared throughout the list. As an example, some security features like Two Factor Authentication and Multi-signature procedures are present in the majority of the wallets. Also, almost half of the wallets that are listed are Hierarchical Deterministic (HD) wallets that are easy to restore. For more information regarding the security and privacy features continue reading on.

How To Put Bitcoin In My Wallet

Security and Privacy

All Bitcoin wallets have a layer of protection that is the bare minimum and that is the SSL (Secure Sockets Layer). Only few of the wallets can support offline transactions and the light node validation function that is not so secure is not present in almost all wallets for BTC. Below I have listed some features and wallets that can help you in your final choice of a wallet:

Hierarchical Deterministic (HD)

The HD feature means that the wallet has a master seed phrase that you need to make sure not to forget or loose. You can create pairs of keys for every transaction and if something happens to the wallet you just need to restore the master seed. Wallets that are HD are Bitcoin Core, BitGo and Mycelium.

Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)

The 2FA function is just an additional protection layer. Simply put, it is just giving you the chance to insert a second unique credential. Wallets that have this function are the Green Address and Bread.

Wallet

Tor as Proxy

This feature allows your IP to not be associated with the transactions that you make. This makes it very hard for network providers and malicious hackers to track you. Wallets that have this are Bitcoin Core, Armory and Electrum.

Secure Bitcoin Wallets To Consider

Bitcoin Wallet Transaction Fees

Let’s talk about fees and their management. In the world of cryptocurrency, the fees are usually paid to miners as payment for them carrying out and confirming your transactions in the network. Different types of wallets have different approaches when it comes to managing those fees. Certain wallets can let you choose the fee that you would like to pay for a transaction depending on which your priority in the network will change, while others have fixed fees. Check out the table below for more information:

Fee ControlHow Does It Work?Supported By
Full ControlThese types of wallets allow you to manually adjust your transaction fees. The transaction fee can be as low as 0.00000350 BTCArmory, Bitcoin Core, Bitcoin Knots, Bitcoin Wallet, Enjin Wallet
Partial ControlThese wallets allow you to adjust your transaction fees based on their “recommended” fees.Jaxx, Exodus, MyCelium, Wirex
No ControlThese wallets usually determine the transaction fees based on how busy the network is or straight up offer only a fixed fee.Bitbox

03.FAQ

  • I have forgotten my password. What can I do?

If your wallet is HIERARCHICAL DETERMINISTIC you can restore it with your master seed only.

  • If I set too low fee, will my transaction go through?

Of course, your transaction will go through eventually, but it might take a long time. The size of the fees in a network determine your priority for the miners. The higher the fee, the faster your transaction will be carried out.

  • What does it mean if my transaction did not arrive?

What I can recommend is checking the block explorer and checking the status of your transaction. Usually it just has not received the necessary number of confirmations before it is considered valid.

04.About Bitcoin

As it is widely known, Bitcoin is the foundation on top of which the whole crypto sphere evolved into what it is today. Bitcoin is the undisputed goliath securing its number one spot in both market cap and transaction volumes as well as being the most famous digital currency in history. It is also famous for its violent shifts in price also called volatility dipping down and shooting up in price somewhat regularly literally multiplying its market cap in the process.

Bitcoin was created and released by Satoshi Nakamoto in 2009. It is unknown up to this day if Satoshi is a single person or a group of people due to the lack of real identity behind the name. It was created with the idea to have a currency that does not require a centralized system like a bank to function and there are no middlemen in the process. The famous blockchain technology allows the network to be secure yet transparent at the same time.

What is a bitcoin wallet?

Best Free Bitcoin Wallet

If you plan on buying, trading or using bitcoin or any cryptocurrency, a wallet is a necessity. In this guide we’ll discuss the types of Bitcoin wallets and why you may choose one over the other. As bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies are digital assets, the way they are used and stored differs from traditional currencies. A crypto wallet should be looked at as a way to access the cryptocurrency you own, as well as a way to send and receive it. Wallets can be on your mobile device, on your desktop, a physical hardware device that you can carry with you or even a piece of paper. Like all crypto wallets, a bitcoin wallet has both a private key and a public bitcoin address. The private key is what you use to access your public key or bitcoin address and interface with the bitcoin network. This can simply be thought of as your pin and is most commonly presented to the user as a 12-word passphrase. These words, or pin, will mean you can access your cryptocurrency wallet from anywhere. If you lose your wallet, you can use your passphrase to recover it. The public key or address can be used to send and receive bitcoin or BTC between parties.

Which Bitcoin Wallet Is Best

Before purchasing bitcoin, you’ll need to set up a wallet to store them. In this guide we’ll discuss types of Bitcoin wallets and why you may choose one over the other. Wallets can be on your mobile, on your desktop or even physical hardware than you can carry with you. When you set up your wallet, you will have what is known as a private key which functions as the password to access your Bitcoin. As you complete a transaction, you will then receive what is known as a public key, which connects you from one Bitcoin user to another. Please note: Never purchase a wallet on eBay. Someone may be attempting to sell you a wallet that has been tampered with to steal your bitcoin. Remember, regardless of which wallet you choose, keeping your bitcoin secure is most important.
